I had intended to post a report on this wine a few weeks ago, but an upper respiratory ailment came to visit and put me down for the count here at Adams, Heritier and Associates. Recovery took longer than I had anticipated, but I’m finally back in the saddle, and happily, the wine is still available and worthy of your consideration, so here’re my impressions.

I go back to 2003 with La Cuvée Mythique. I liked it a lot back then, but lost track of it for several years. I ran into a batch of the latest vintage during my recent visit to Total Wine, and it was an easy choice to try again, given my previous enthusiasm for this bottling. I should add that it is listed as “limited quantity” availability, so you might want to pick some up sooner, rather than later.

2019 La Cuvée Mythique Des Vignerons de la Mediterranée IGP Pays d’Oc, 13.5% alc., $15.99: This is a wine with depth and intensity, which is apparent from the first glimpse at the almost opaque dark color. Big and expressive, it delivers the kind of secondary character that I really like with this kind o’ Rhone-ish blend, much more in the leather and mahogany spectrum than the plum and berry. It’s drinking really well right now, but it has the structure to continue to develop and improve for at least 2-5 years. It’s been quite a while since I last had one of these, and it pretty much performs as I remember. This is one of those wines I want to drink on a regular basis. A blend of Syrah, Grenache, Marselan, Carignan and Mourvèdre. Find this wine

Even today, the quality of this exceptional wine is ensured through a rigorous selection process. The selection process starts in the vineyard. All the winemakers of the cooperative can participate in the creation of this exceptional wine, provided they meet the very strict criteria outlined in the specifications. Subsequently, a blind tasting conducted by oenologists and also by wine enthusiasts allows for the selection of the most promising cuvées.

Finally, the chosen cuvées are carefully blended to create “La Cuvée Mythique,” a wine that is both modern and Mediterranean in character.
