Another Tasty Sainte-Anne Côtes du Rhône Blanc

…this one is so enjoyable now, it’s hard not to pour another glass…

This is the 3rd wine from Domaine Sainte-Anne that I’ve reviewed since rebooting Tasting Notes from the Underground this past February. The red Côtes du Rhône has been a perennial favorite at our house going back many years, and with this release, I’m starting to feel the same about the white. I’m hard-pressed to name another winery, domestic or otherwise, that consistently produces such solid quality for so relatively few dollars.

2021 Domaine Sainte-Anne Côtes du Rhône Blanc, 14.5% alc., $12.99: This is very much like the 2018 model that we liked so well earlier this year, with the added appeal that can come with a younger, fresher wine. It’s mineral-driven and fairly rich, with a hint of lanolin shading the nice white tree-fruit and yellow apple personality. Balanced acidity keeps it moving right along into the lingering finish. That 2018 shows that these don’t mind a little bottle-time at all, but this one is so enjoyable now, it’s hard not to pour another glass or pull another cork. Find this wine

I’m getting this at the same place and for the same price that I bought the 2018 vintage, at Plum Market’s West Bloomfield location. If you’re looking for a dry white wine that avoids the bloat of oaky, low acid Chardonnays, or the almost steroidal zing of too many New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs, this might be just what you’re looking for. Highly recommended.
